Ever since I can remember, I've loved to read (no matter what it was - even the back of the cereal box). I used to have my mom read me the same story over and over again to the point that I could recite it from memory and tell if she ever skipped a part. Reading was my first love, and I used to get sucked into a good book the way most kids would TV shows or video games. I truly was (and am) a book worm.
I've also always really liked to write. In high school I mostly enjoyed analytical writing (thank you to my awesome AP English teacher for teaching me how to do this well) with some creative writing sprinkled in. Now I'm more interested in creative writing - short stories, poetry, maybe even a novel if I'm daring enough??? My inspirations right now are Kathryn Stockett (author of The Help), Paulo Coelho (author of The Alchemist), and (of course) J.K. Rowling (if you don't know what books she's written, then I'm not even going to bother telling you).
As Edward Bulwer-Lytton aptly said in his 1839 play Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy, "The pen is mightier than the sword."
I hope this blog can be a place for people to explore why that's true through discussing books, poetry, plays, short stories, editorial pieces, etc. and sharing new ideas for creative, analytical, and expository writing.
